Madison Knows Technology

Welcome to the first post of the Technology section for Madison Wisconsin Living. It just so happens that Madtown happens to be a little tech hotbed and as such I thought it appropriate to have a tech section to this website. I also happen to be an internet geek, that has experience selling and marketing technology products, from computers to digital mixing stations, I’ve got an idea on the different type of tech out there.
I thought I’d start writing about some of the things I observe in the tech space. We’ll focus on local and national tech news & info, and it will likely be heavily weighted towards web marketing, since that’s the world I’ve been living in for the past 5 years. If you have any story suggestions feel free to hit me up on Twitter or contact me here.
With that let’s do a quick round up on some local Madison Tech News:
- Netconcepts, where I went to Internet Marketing College and studied under professor Stephan Spencer, has been acquired by Covario, the leader in enterprise search advertising software and services. Congrats to the shareholders and employees @ Netconcepts, they worked long and hard for this acquisition. This illustrates the great tech intellectual property that gets nurtured in Madison
- Sonic Foundry, creators of Mediasite lecture capture technology, recently reported first quarter 2010 results. Revenues are up 12% to 4.5 million and while they are still operating at a loss of $0.09/diluted share, that loss has improved from $0.36/diluted share a year ago. I had the pleasure of sitting in on a panel discussion where their VP of Marketing Erica St. Angel. Erica gave some great real life examples on Sonic Foundry’s use of Social Media. Disclaimer, Sonic Foundry’s Public Relations Manager, Tammy Kramer, happens to be a real estate client of my wife, Jamie Miller.
- The folks at Alice.com have been busy launching the first ecommerce platform for Consumer Packaged Goods. From the makers of Jellyfish, now Microsoft Cashback, Mark McGuire and Brian Wiegand have been at it again looking to Strategically Reposition how the CPG market is done online. Alice.com has an excellent Social Media & PR member in Rebecca Thorman. You’ll note Alice.com has 2 blogs, company & community as well as active Twitter & Facebook presences. In all honesty we’ve signed up for Alice.com but have yet to press go, i.e. we haven’t submitted that first order. It’s kind of a new thing and for what ever reason we just haven’t brought ourselves to pull the trigger. I’ll have to remedy that once we move and get settled.
- Tech Trivia
That’s all for now. I’ll be writing from time to time on random things tech. It will be a combination of what I read across the Interwebs and what tech projects I may be working on at any given moment.
