The nature-inspired paintings in this collection are the results of a ritualistic process by Bolingbroke who developed each painting from a personal object such as thorns from a Black Locust tree. By meditating on each object, Bolingbroke discovered that real beauty is a striking and disturbing balance of opposites. According to Bolingbroke, “Beauty has to be both yin and yang, both light and dark, both life and death, both stability and motion, both emptiness and fullness, both black and white for there to be a real and honest expression of beauty.”

Join us as we celebrate our eighth year in business. Tami, Derek and our wonderful staff past and present thank you for your support these past eight years. We are proud to be part of Madison’s restaurant community and look forward to many more years.

Staying true to the vision that’s garnered Harvest local and national renown since the day it opened, Derek Rowe, Harvest’s new Executive Chef is committed to creating an evolving menu that focuses on the seasonality and locality of the products, rather than any one specific cuisine. His approachable and hearty dishes draw on influences from France, Italy, and Spain, and are filled with big flavors.

Derek first began in the restaurant business here in Madison at L’Etoile, and has since worked at many of the most well-known and respected restaurants in Chicago and Manhattan—Vong, Craft, and most notably, as Mario Batali’s Sous Chef at Babbo.

About Harvest Restaurant: Our evolving menu takes advantage of the great variety of local and organic ingredients raised by this region’s farmers. Named by Organic Style magazine as one of the top 20 restaurants in America, and most recently named one of America’s top Farm-to-Table restaurants by Gourmet Magazine. Harvest takes seriously its obligation to our customers of providing the best each season has to offer. Each month, we open our doors for a special dinner that highlights and explores the producers of one of our favorite local growers or a single ingredient that is at its peak that month.

Join us as we welcome Kevin Powell of Heritage Breeds Farm in Strawberry Point, Iowa.

Chef Derek Rowe will create a five-course menu featuring Mulefoot hog. The evening’s featured wines will be of Spanish origin from the Steve Miles Selections available locally through Alto Vino Wines.

About the American Mulefoot Hog: The origin of the Mulefoot is unclear, and many theories have arisen about its links with mulefooted stocks in Asia and Europe. The breed is more likely to have descended from the Spanish hogs brought to the Americas beginning in the 1500s. It shares some attributes with the Choctaw hog, and the two breeds likely come from the same ancestral stock, which was loosely selected and managed until the late 1800s.

The Mulefoot breed is critically rare, with fewer than 150 purebred hogs documented today. The initiative of this dinner is “Eat It To Save It”. By making a market for these endangered American breeds, small family farmers will once again begin raising this breed for our local marketplace, and not just for hobby.

About the Chef: Staying true to the vision that’s garnered Harvest local and national renown since the day it opened, Derek Rowe, Harvest’s new Executive Chef is committed to creating an evolving menu that focuses on the seasonality and locality of the products, rather than any one specific cuisine.
